We occasionally receive comments from the non-LGBT+ Rovers fans who feel that because they're not lesbian, gay, bi or trans that they're in some way being excluded.
We want to tell you that you're not, and here is why:
So what is an ally?
The term 'ally' is given to a person who isn't LGBT+, but still shares in our belief that Blackburn Rovers should be an all-inclusive club, where all fans should have full equality regardless of their sexual orientation or how they identify their gender.
Why are allies important to Proud Rovers?
Allies can play a crucial role in bringing everyone together inclusively. As a LGBT+ ally, you can help us drive homophobia out of the game that we all love.If you are strong enough to:
Then you my friend, are our ally.
Whether you're straight or LGBT+ at the end of the day, you're a Rovers fan and we should all stand together and get behind the team.
We want to live in a world where LGBT+ Rovers fans can attend games without worrying about what names they might be called or how they might be treated.Or being made to feel that they don't belong, because football is a "straight thing".Football is football.
If you share our passion for it, you should be entitled to follow the team without fear of discrimination. We want to fill that stadium full of Rovers fans - regardless of who they are.
We want to live in a world where footballers can openly come out as gay, because they won't get the abuse from the stands or from their teammates for just being themselves.
As an ally, you can help make this happen.
Does LGBT+ phobia affect the players?
Employment studies show that your performance at work can be directly affected by mental stress, or the feeling of 'a weight on your shoulders'.Football is no different. For LGBT+ footballers who are too afraid to openly 'come out', this could have an adverse affect on their performance.
So by helping us abolish homophobia, not only will you be making all fans feel welcome at Ewood, but by giving OUR players of OUR club the platform to be just who they are, it could actually improve their performances too.
So help us abolish homophobia at Blackburn Rovers.Help your friends, help your players, help your team.
Be an ally.
We welcome you to help us to spread our message of equality, acceptance and being inclusive to everyone at Blackburn Rovers.
